Locating Federal Death Benefits 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My brother died a few months ago without a will. He was never married and didn't have any children. So far, we haven't been able to find any assets, although he worked for the federal government for many years. How can we find out if there's any federal benefits that his heirs might be entitled to? Is there someplace to write for that kind of information?

I believe the place to start is the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Its website is http://www.opm.gov/forms/pdfimage/sf3114.pdf. There, you'll find information about benefits, plus instructions and forms to actually apply for them.

Let us know how you make out and if there is something better out there. Good luck!
